Rob leads Hoffmann’s engineering team, overseeing structural design services delivered by the firm’s engineers across all three offices. His expertise in parking structure rehabilitation and building enclosure structural detailing guides accurate identification of emerging and persistent problems, and facilitates development of appropriate, long-lasting solutions. As a senior leader in engineering, Rob provides mentorship to Hoffmann’s emerging professionals, reviewing project documents and supervising investigation and construction phase services to educate junior staff on enclosure detailing and project management. He has published technical articles on the care and treatment of parking garages and masonry structures, offering guidance to building owners and property managers in best practices for maintenance, repair, and prevention.
Certified as a Qualified Parking Structures Inspector (QPSI) in New York City, Rob has the credentials to provide inspection and remediation services for garages as part of the City’s Periodic Inspection of Parking Structures (PIPS) program. He evaluates structural elements for incipient hazards and provides timelines and recommendations for needed repairs. With experience ranging from resolving traffic coating deterioration and sealant joint failure to stabilizing deficient parking decks, Rob has a comprehensive skillset to address garage problems. He also provides consultation for facade and roof rehabilitation, and he has been called upon as an expert witness for his specialized knowledge of building enclosures.
With a degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University, Rob brings insight into technical matters that has proven vital to the investigation and rehabilitation of building distress. He draws on his extensive experience treating a range of building systems, materials, and conditions to provide astute and detailed building envelope solutions.
Active in the industry, Rob is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
In his free time, Rob enjoys taking trips up the New England coast with family, playing golf, and applying his engineering skills to one new project or another in his yard.
