Anderson to take on greater project management responsibilities

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers, a design firm specializing in the rehabilitation of building exteriors, announces that Kristen T. Anderson, AIA, part of the firm’s New York City team, has been promoted to Senior Staff Architect.

Kristen Anderson joined Hoffmann Architects + Engineers in 2019 as Project Representative, after completing a Bachelor of Architecture degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She quickly rose in the ranks, earning promotions to Senior Project Representative in 2021 and to Project Coordinator in 2022. In 2023, she gained licensure as a registered architect and received a promotion to Staff Architect. In recognition of her increasing experience, leadership, and responsibilities, she has now been promoted to Senior Staff Architect.

Project Accomplishments

Anderson has taken on project management responsibilities for several projects in the greater New York City area. Under her leadership, challenging enclosure projects move successfully from investigation through design and construction, with Anderson’s scrupulous oversight guiding project progress.

At the Dorie Miller Housing Cooperative, which opened in 1953 as New York’s first racially integrated cooperative housing complex, Anderson coordinated a team of six Hoffmann design professionals to conduct 136 close-up inspections, prepare contract documents, and administer construction for a water infiltration remediation and facade repair project. She documented the work in compliance reports for the New York City Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP). The second phase of the six-building project is slated to begin in late 2025 / early 2026, with Anderson at the helm.

Anderson’s projects also include exterior facade stabilization and replacement design at Jerome Greene Hall, a Midcentury Modern building home to Columbia University Law School. She has been instrumental in analyzing facade conditions and identifying deficiencies; developing a temporary stabilization solution; creating schematic designs for facade repair, partial replacement, and full replacement options; developing an evaluation matrix to assess these options; coordinating among subconsultants; and conducting material research to refine design options. Her technical and aesthetic training enables her to design for improved performance and efficiency, while attending to exterior expression of newly renovated interior spaces.

In the Lenox Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, Anderson is the project manager for a roof replacement project at 521-523 E 72nd Street, a mixed-use property built in 1920. To address water infiltration, Anderson oversaw a leak investigation, followed by contract document production and bidding coordination for roof replacement at five of the building’s nine roof areas, including both conventional and inverted roof assemblies. She is currently managing the construction administration phase of the project.

Service to the Industry

As she advances in her career, Anderson makes time to give back to emerging professionals and future architects through her mentorship and guidance. A volunteer with the ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York, she has devoted many hours to mentoring high school students interested in design and construction careers. This year, she served on the jury for the 2025 ACE scholarship program.

At Hoffmann, Anderson supports junior team members in their career development through her ongoing involvement in the Emerging Professionals Group.

Kristen Anderson is a Registered Architect in New York and Connecticut and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
