The George Washington
University
Plaza Rehabilitation
Washington, DC
This major rehabilitation
was designed to resolve ongoing deterioration at the brick paved plaza that
serves as a major passageway to the university's three-building academic center,
which includes Smith and Phillips Halls. Hoffmann Architects conducted a
comprehensive investigation into the causes of the deterioration and provided
design through construction contract administration services for the work. The
rehabilitation included removal of the existing plaza down to the waterproofing
membrane, cleaning of the membrane and adding a second layer of rubberized sheet
membrane. A new overburden system of drainage board, insulation and patterned
concrete was installed. |
